This project is based on a research made at the Romanian Academy Library and it aims to recover and to make public the work of a great Romanian photographer, Nicolae Ionescu. This is why, after a long selection of photographs, we decided to display on this site, in an on-line exhibition, 47 photographs that we consider to be representative for the theme we chose and also for the work of Nicolae Ionescu.

We invite the visitors to first have a look at the Context section of this site because it's there that he or she can find additional information on the photographer, his work, the archive that preserves it and also about the historic and social context that produced the great images that are displayed.

The exhibition is divided in four main themes and also some of these have several smaller themes included. The sub themes are not separated from each other but they are emphasized only on each theme's page. This layout was purposefully chosen in order to keep the unity of the theme and of the exhibition.
