Technical description

Băieţi cu steaua pe Calea Dudeşti
Boys with Christmas Star on Dudeşti Street

The ritual takes place in the time between Christmas and the Epiphany. The texts spoken have a relatively recent and scholarly origin and have circulated integrated in the Herods’ Theatre. The authors are anonymous monks who were familiar with the biblical writings.

The photography shows the ritual taking place in a pauper side of Bucharest (as confirmed by the accompanying note the object is Dudesti Street, a street situated in the city’s periphery). The group has stopped in front of a semi-basement. The photographer has come close enough, so two pairs of eyes have caught him.

The Star is made of paper and tinsel, its center being occupied by the Nativity scene.
