Buying a chicken at the market in 1928
The poultry was being raised at the
outskirts of the city (as shown in the photo taken
at Colentina’s barrier) and carried in special
wagons. Next to it was the singing birds’ market, a
great point of attraction for the people living in
Bucharest.
Incipient forms of commerce: the baskets covered
with net are laid down on bare ground. The character
of the masc (suit, handkerchief, shining shoes) has
stopped next to a basket and makes an eye estimate
of the merchandise.
