Sledge on the Road
The sledge served as a mean of transportation to
those walking in Bucharest, but was also used for
drive to the Road (taking over the role of the cars
from Victory Avenue).
The photo is a diagonal composition. The movement
takes place from right to left, towards the
photographer. The photo frames a sledge that is
pulling some smaller sledges. It seems to be a
family. The father is leading the big sledge,
smiling proudly (maybe because he saw the
photographer?). The mother (an elegant hat, a sign
that the family is wealthy) has covered herself with
the blanket and has turned towards the children, a
bit worried. The three children seem to enjoy the
winter. Just one of them noticed the photographer
and, surprised, he seems to have left the game.
